This week 'Flashback Friday' introduces American guitarist, poet and perfectionist who in a span of 4 years revolutionized the music scene with his transcendent music and influential stage performance. Arguably the greatest instrumentalist in the history of rock music and the greatest guitarist of all time it is none other than Jimi Hendrix.
Born on November 27, 1942, in Seattle, Washington, Hendrix started playing guitar from age 15. He taught himself to play guitar and went on to become a rock guitar legend! Jimi Hendrix dropped out of High School to follow his musical aspiration.
Jimi Hendrix served in the United States Army as a paratrooper from 1961 to 1962 but, he still found time for music in those years of defence service. After being discharged from Military due to injury, Hendrix pursued his music as a session musician and played gigs around New York.
In mid 1966, Hendrix moved to London where he created 'The Jimi Hendrix Experience'. The band gave 3 UK Top Ten Hits within months. 'Hey Joe', 'Purple Haze' and 'The wind cries Mary' were instant smash in Britain. With his performance at Monterey Pop Festival in 1967, Hendrix won over American music fans.
Already proclaimed as the World's highest-paid performer Jimi performed at the legendary musical event, The Woodstock Festival in 1969 before his untimely death at the age of 27 on September 18, 1970.
In a short life Jimi Hendrix has left behind him a lasting legacy that makes him an influential and popular rock music figure to this date, four decades after his death!
